Recognition counts is a program that provides support to skilled immigrants wishing to work in their fields of expertise or alternative career in Manitoba. The program offers financial counselling, as well as the opportunity to apply for a loan of up to $30,000 to help with the costs associated with obtaining employment in your occupation.

English Language Proficiency
For physicians trained outside Canada who did not, at the time of licensure in Canada, have to demonstrate English language proficiency, applicants will require language proficiency testing.

English language testing (basic):
1. IELTS academic version within the last 24 months at the time of application, and achieved a minimum score of 7.0 in each of the four components in the same sitting; or
2. Occupational English Test – Medicine (OET-Medicine), with a minimum grade of B in each of the four subsets in the same sitting; or
3. Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program – General (CELPIP-General) Test, with a minimum score of 9 in each of the four skills in the same sitting

The NAC Examination is a one-day exam that assesses your readiness to enter a Canadian residency program. It is a national, standardized examination that tests the knowledge, skills, and attitudes essential for entrance into postgraduate training in Canada.

The Medical Council of Canada (MCC) only accepts documents translated by ITC Translations, NATIONS Translation Group, and Straker for source verification of documents. Candidates must work directly with one of the providers to have their documents translated, including for any questions throughout the process, as well as for timelines, quality, pricing and payment. These providers are committed to delivering translations that meet the MCC’s requirements.

Manitoba Careers for Internationally Educated Professionals Program
This program supports internationally educated professionals (IEPs) towards their goal of working in their professional fields in Manitoba. It provides non-repayable financial assistance to help IEPs with assessment and training costs while pursuing registration. To be eligible, individuals must have started the registration process with a Manitoba regulator, and be motivated and able to complete the process in a timely, efficient and continuous manner.

Manitoba Student Aid
This is a supplemental financial assistance program for Manitobans who do not have enough resources to pay for post-secondary education (university or college) on their own. This program provides various types of funding through the Manitoba Student Aid Program and the Canada Student Loans and Grants Programs. Funding includes repayable government student loans and non-repayable grants and/or bursaries.
